Community Classes

Experience movement, culture, and community through Muntu Dance Theatre’s Community Classes! Led by Muntu teaching artists, guest instructors, and local and international artists, our classes invite teens and adults of all experience levels to learn, move, and grow together.

Our rotating class offerings celebrate the richness and diversity of African and African Diasporic movement traditions. Classes may include West African and other African dance styles, Jazz, Hip Hop, Afro-Brazilian dance, Afro-Puerto Rican traditions such as Bomba, Afro-Caribbean dance, Soca, and more. Each class offers an opportunity to explore movement, music, rhythm, history, and the cultural traditions that have shaped these forms.

Whether you are stepping into the studio for the first time or are an experienced dancer looking to expand your movement vocabulary, our Community Classes offer something for everyone. Beyond learning dance, classes can help you:

• Build strength, stamina, coordination, flexibility, and body awareness

• Support cardiovascular health and overall fitness through movement

• Reduce stress and experience the joy and energy of dancing

• Learn about the histories and cultures connected to the dances you experience

• Explore new movement styles and expand your artistic vocabulary

• Connect with artists, culture, and community in a welcoming environment

Muntu’s Community Classes are an extension of our mission to preserve, celebrate, and share the dance, music, and cultural traditions of Africa and its Diaspora while creating space for learning, connection, and artistic expression.

Come move with us, learn with us, and experience community through dance.
