Celebrating the Journey - Muntu's 40th Anniversary

This year, Muntu Dance Theatre is celebrating 40 years of continuous artistic programming that reflects the African cultural legacy of African Americans and people of African descent around the world. When Muntu began in 1972, its founding artistic director, Alyo Tolbert, envisioned a company rooted in African culture and grounded by its commitment to community. Since that time, we have worked to make this vision a reality through our performances, educational programming and community events. As we reflect on the progress we’ve made, we recognize that none of our achievements would be possible without the dedication of the artists, directors and administrators who have shared their talents with us over the years. Also key, is the support from our funders, contributors, volunteers, and audiences. You share in this achievement and we thank you.
In recognition of this milestone, Muntu invites you to share in our 40th Anniversary Season entitled The Journey. We are pleased to welcome the Sara Lee Foundation as our 40th Anniversary Season sponsor! We have exciting performances and activities planned to celebrate this landmark year. Our expanded season will highlight the Company’s work over these 40 years, and explore new creative ideas that push the boundaries of the form. You can check our calendar for information on our upcoming performance and join our email list and like us on facebook to receive updates. We also encourage you to come back to this site often as we will continue to add information about community events occurring this year.
