Technical Specifications

Stage

Minimum performance area of 40 x 30.

  • Floor must either be wood or linoleum not laid on concrete.  Floor surface must not be splintery, varnished nor waxed but smooth with no protruding parts (nails, staples, rough edges, etc…).   If floor is not safe for barefoot dancing; a (Black Marley) dance floor must be provided by the presenter. 

  • The floor and wings must be cleaned (swept and mopped) prior to the Company’s rehearsal(s), performance(s) and swept at intermission.

  • Wing space and cross-over area behind the performance area is required.

  • A front curtain and white cyc is desirable.

Space

Dressing rooms must be clean and private allowing performers easy, non-public access to the performing area.

  • Two lavatories one for men, one for women with sinks nearby/adjacent to dressing room.

  • Two dressing rooms, one for men and one for women, each capable of accommodating 8 people. 

  • Each dressing room should be furnished with a coat/ costume rack with hangers, seating for 8 people, makeup lights and mirrors and 2 tables.

  • Quick-change area backstage or adjacent to the performance area may be needed if dressing rooms are not adjacent to the stage area.  Access to the quick-change area must be limited to MUNTU performers.

  • Area in or near dressing area should have electrical outlets and electrical heater to warm drum skins. (During Cold Weather)

Sound and Lighting

Note:  Specifics of sound and lighting will differ depending on the particular production performed by the Company.  The Presenter and Technical Director will agree on the specifics 4 weeks prior to the performance, following a consultation with the Presenter. Specific sound and lighting are listed:

  • Off stage microphones:  1 stage right and 1 stage left in the wings.
  • Floor microphones:  (2) pcc or pzm – downstage left and right
  • (1) wireless hand held microphone with detachable stand.
  • (2-4) Monitors off stage in the wings (upstage left, upstage right, center stage left and center stage right)
  • (2-4) Overhead microphones hung center stage.
  • Sound Technician and sound board available for performance(s) and technical rehearsal(s).

LIGHTING

  • Color washes:  amber, red, blue, white and green.
  • (4-6) Instruments hung for gobos projection.
  • Wing lighting towers.  Each tower should have 3-6 instruments focused to light lead, mid-section and feet of stage performers.  (3) towers stage left: upstage, center stage and downstage and (3) towers stage right: upstage, center stage and downstage.  Colors will be determined by Muntu Technical Director.
  • 3 specials are needed to enhanced the main performance area:
    • upstage center soft edge rectangular special – approximately 15ft. by 5ft.
    • center stage soft edge circle special – approximately 25 ft. in diameter
    • downstage center soft edge rectangular special – approximately 20ft by 5 ft.
    • *All specials should be units of the white wash
  • Light Board Operator and light board available for performance(s) and rehearsal(s).
  • Follow spot and operator available for performance(s) and rehearsal(s).

Personnel

  • A minimum of (2) stage assistants will be needed during the performance(s).
  • (2) stagehands minimum must be available for load-in and load-out.
  • (2) wardrobe persons with irons and ironing boards are needed the day before the performance, if not the day of the performance.

Other

 
  • 2 prop tables are needed one in each wing and 6 folding chairs.
  • Tech booth with clear view of performance area.  Technical Director will call show from the hours of booth. 
  • Intercom system available between Technical Director, tech booth and backstage area.
  • (2) irons and ironing boards or (2) steamers in one of the dressing rooms.
  • Loading dock close to backstage area.
  • Parking for Company vehicles (possible a charter bus).
 

Hospitality

  • Bottled water and juice for rehearsal(s) and during performance(s).
  • Fresh fruit and vegetable tray available for rehearsal(s) and during performance(s).
